Printing an exploded Router not on a work order?

Hello,

Our company has just implemented Enterprise One 8.95.B1
environment JPD810.
We are a manufacturing company and are having a hard time
adapting to JDE. It does not seem configured to handle
jobshop operations efficiently. We utilize the ECO process
module which also seems more to limit us than aid us. Never
the less it is here to stay and we must learn to workaround
it's short-comings. We are having several issues, but the
most irritating issue is not even being able to print
what we need printed.
We use the P3003 Routing Master to generate routers for use
as work instructions on the manufacturing floor. Right now
we only have the capability to print the exploded view,
meaning, (operation line + 1st text attachment) on a work
order. So what we do is create the multiple operation lines
on the routing master and enter the labor hours for each
accordingly. Then we attach a text attachment to each
operation line outlining the exact instructions for that
operation. We need to be able to print out this entire
routing with all the instructions (all the text attachments)
in sequence without creating a work order. Seems like
a simple enough concept. However, we are told it can not be
done. The only partial solution we can think of is to
break out our operation lines like normal with the labor
hours so that the capacity planning will still function,
but place all the work instructions into a single text
attachment on the last operation line of the routing.
Now that would be fine, but from within the text attachment
the print button does not work properly. If you click the
print button it will print the routing + 29,000 pages of
blank paper. There is no option for PRINT SELECTION just
PRINT ALL. There is no Right-Click availability. So we can't
highlight the text, right-click and select PRINT SELECTION.
Our only option is to copy all the text out of the text
attachment and paste it into another word processing
software to print from. This is a pain and quite irritating
considering the money invested.
Could anyone here please give us a solution for this it
would be very much appreciated?

Hello BKG. Welcome to JDEList.

Sorry to hear you've just implemented what is already an old release. I'm sure there is a story to tell there . . .

Anyway, after reading your post I'm not sure what you're after. Is it just a report that will print a single level routing for a given assembly, including text attachments?

if yes, then it would be a simple matter for a developer to write a report or UBE to produce that.

If you want multi-level explosion of all the routing operation steps involved in producing an end-item, that's a bit more involved but we've done this starting by customizing one of the BOM Exposion reports/UBEs.

If I'm totally missing the mark here let me know.

You say you're a job-shop environment. Are you high-volume? i.e. do you have a large number of jobs processed each day/week? I believe
JDE has an option to bypass the somewhat transaction intensive work-order process and just basically report completions to the system - hoever I think those enhancements were introduced in 8.11 or 8.12 of the software (current version is 9.0). Is estimating/quoting a big issue for you? I'd like to know what (if any) solutions were

I hear your pain with the ECO module. The only thing that can really be said for it is that it can be made to work - but, boy a rewrite of it would be nice to have.

Larry,

Thank you for responding.
I think what I am looking for is a single level routing with
text attachments , as you described it.
Lets say I have a router and it has 5 line items on it.
Each is a different step/work center for 5 different
tasks that must be completed on that one particular assembly. Each one of the line items has a text attachment
outlining the detailed work instructions for that particular step.
Right now the only way we can print out a full blown router
is to create a work order and print it. The router will then print out along with the work order. We want to be able to print the full router by itself at anytime reagrdless of being attached to a work order or not.

It should look something like this I believe:

Work Center Line Item Description LBR/hr
700 1.00 Cable Shop 1.5
************************************************************
Text Attachment Prints Here!
************************************************************

800 2.00 Harness Route 2.5
************************************************************
Text Attachment Prints Here!
************************************************************

ETC.......

So you say that it would be a simple matter for a developer to write a report or UBE to produce that?

Quoting is done manually right now. We hope to implement the
capacity planning module and start to deal with realtime figures for use in quoting.

Ok ... finally did a little checking.
There is a standard UBE that is close to what you want.
Try running R30430 - see attachment here for sample output.

Larry,

That looks great.
Exactly what we are looking for.
However, how do I run the R30430?
I tried pasting in FastPath , but got an error
saying "UBE can not be launched by FastPath".
I appologize, but I am very new to JDE.

Sincerely,
B

I think I am close to figuring it out.
I went to Submit Job and entered R30430 as the Batch.
I selected Y for Read Only report. I have 5 selections and I ran all of them. I selected brachplant and 3rd Item number when prompted. It prints the Routers line Items but does not print the TEXT Attachments in between like your sample.

Your report was WAG0001 correct?
I don't have that.
I have ITS0001, RIS0001, STS0001, XJDE0001 and XJDEDOC1.
They all produce the same report. It is identical to your sample except no text attachments. Is it as simple as someone exporting the WAG0001 report and us importing it to
the library? Where do we go from here?

Thanks,
B

Please ensure that the sample item number you used DOES have text attached to the routing steps.

Another way to run batch reports on the fly is to use BV from FastPath. Enter the UBE name, select FIND, and then select the version you want to run.

Ahhh, checked our modification documentation and we modified this UBE to include text attachments (GT3003B). Sorry for the false trail.

Larry,

OK. No Problem. At least we don't need a newer version of JDE.
So, how do I edit the UBE to include text attachments (GT3003B)?
Can't be that hard can it?

Regards,
B
