Oracle In-Memory Applications for JDE E1

I was reading up on tech bulletins from Oracle and found a link about something called "In-Memory" applications. Apparently Oracle says E1 runs 20x times faster in this infrastructure.

Since they don't really say upfront what the technology is that makes it go 20x faster (other than some vague reference to Oracle Engineered Systems), I was curious.

Anybody familiar Oracle In-Memory applications? Does Oracle Engineered Systems = [Some Proprietary Exalogic Oracle Stack]?

I read the MTRs for In-Memory Apps. And, it does appear that In-Memory Apps means Oracle Exa* infrastructure.

I also recall hearing at the Collaborate conference that it requires a special E1 tools foundation as well.

Anyone try In-Memory Applications on non-Exa ?
