NT Service Pack ??

We are currently on B7322 and planning our upgrade to Xe. We are trying to
determine the best course of action for our deployment server. I have one
question...

Can we continue to run PROD in B7322 sp 12.2, with SQL 6.5, hotfix 423 and
still upgrade our NT Deployment server service pack to 6a to test the Xe
upgrade for our DEV environment?


OW: B7322 sp12.2; NT deployment server 4.0 sp 4; AS400 Enterprise server;

Yes, I have done this before. If you don't build packages for B732.2 going
forward, you don't have anything to worry about. If you will need to build
packages going forward, backup your system, systemcomp and OneWorld Client
install directories before you upgrade XW.

May I suggest, alternatively, you convert your SQLServer Central Objects to
AS/400 Central Objects?

If you are keeping Central Objects in SQL for Xe, it would be better to upgrade to SQL 7 SP 2 and hotfix. SQL 7 performance is better than SQL 6.5 and SQL 7 has dynamic table allocations (tables will expand on its own as needed).

You should upgrade NT SP and SQL before upgrading to Xe.

If you are doing Xe upgrade yourself, then I would recommend having a test system to do it on. We have learned a lot upgrading Xe on our test system.

It's not necessary to convert Central Objects from SQL to AS/400. It depends on the AS/400, the amount of disk space available and model etc. For that reason, we have decided to keep Central Objects on SQL.

Service Pack 3 for SQL 7 is the latest approved SP. However is you are going to upgrade from SQL 6.5, you'd be better going to SQL 2000

I apologise, when I glanced at the Tech Spec I though it read 7332. Your
right, SQL2000 is not support for B732. I'm going home it's been a long day

I'm not sure that the NT Service pack is going to be as big a concern as the
C++. If memory serves me correctly, you are on C++ 5.0 with B7322, you will
need to upgrade to C++ 6.0 SP3 for XE. I guess as long as you make no
further changes to PROD and don't need to rebuild any other packages for
PROD, then you should be ok. Just a thought.
