New Xe Migration Tool

Hi all JDE'ers

Wanting to test the waters here -

If there was a tool that could easily "transport" any object from one pathcode to another - no matter what version to what version (ie DEV B733 to CRP Xe or PROD B7331 to DEV B7332) instantly and smoothly - would you be interested ? Remember - this would also mean a tool that in theory could eradicate long upgrades since it would be possible to take objects from a complex B733x environment to a pristine Xe environment with no requirements for using the toolset.

If you are interested in such a tool - how much is it worth ? Just testing an idea in my head....! To prevent "me too's" on this thread - please email me directly - otherwise any comments would be gratefully accepted on the thread.

Jon,

I assume you mean a tool that would deal with all the object ID issues, right?

Wouldn't there still be potential issues with changes to JDE objects that our custom code references but whose interfaces have changed? I don't know if there would be or not - just throwing it out.

Anyway such a tool to me would be priceless ... but to the guy who signs the checks I think it would need to be 5 digits US$.

How much is "endless praise and alleluia's" from the jdelist members worth? ;)

Well

We have been busy creating such a tool over the past couple of months - I am expecting to release a beta version for a couple of select customers in the next week or so. The tool will allow a CNC administrator to move objects from any pathcode to any other pathcode - it will also allow for an object to be deleted from a pathcode as well. It is bit of a "dangerous" tool - and so we are thoroughly testing every aspect of it - however, we have so far transported both custom and JDE code between B733 base and Xe - NER, TBLE, UBE, APPL, BSFN, BSVW and Processing Option Templates...

The tool will also allow for users to copy custom code into a smaller Microsoft Access Database - and back into any supported OW database - allowing custom code to be 100% transportable, without the hassles of product packaging. I am sure that this alone will be valuable to a lot of Business Partners !

We will try and get the tool available for February - likely it will be downloadable from my web site for free - but most of the functionality will be "locked" unless a code is entered. We are still debating the price...!

Well - I hope that keeps the forum informed - I will be getting priority dispatches to those who emailed me directly asking for the tool !
