MRP - Please help

Good morning JDELIST.

I would "REALLY" appreciate hearing back from any customers running MRP on
the same version as us (see above).

We anticipate 10 unique branches, smallest being 20,000 records (four deep)
and the largest being 150,000 records (four deep).

We are under the impression that the smallest branch (20,000 records) could
take more than 24 hours to execute.

Could you PLEASE share your experience (run times) with me and what you have
done to execute MRP in 20 minutes or less.

Thank-You.

Michael - we are currently One World Xe Service Pack 14.2 AS/400 - no
coexistence - we currently have about 59,000 item master records (not all
active) with bills of materials 6 levels deep(average). We run full MRP in
two branch plants at this time. In the future we will run in several
branches. In B7332 MRP ran in about 4 hours. Currently in XE about 1 hour.
We are not using the parallel processing yet. When all data is loaded we
will have over 229,000 item master records in 2 branches alone. Each
additional branch will hold the same number of item records. Our bills will
be up to 11 levels deep. We are also concerned with MRP run time when all
data is loaded. We have not tuned the system yet, our overall response
time is very slow. Supply and demand screen can be up to 3 minuets per
item.

This is something you may already have tried, but it's
first thought that came to mind.
Run MRP By first clearing out the files
f311,f3312,f3313, in other words, run a Full Regen of
MRP - don't use the Net Change MRP generation.
This should improve performance.

Yes - we have also found that MRP regen runs faster than net change - we do
not plan on running net change at this time.

Has anyone asked JDE why the net change runs obscenely longer than the gross regen? We are experiencing the same thing with about 70,000 item branch records. We have about 14 different branch plants with varying amount of items in each. Gross regen runs in about an hour and net change runs all day. We have a small number of bills of material and all of those are only 1 level deep so it can't be linked back to a low level code or bill of material integrity issue.

To Paul and NAlley,

I really wish you would include your system configuration information in your postings - its one reason I waited to jump into this thread.
...

To Michael,

Under B7331 (and cum 2 apparently) net regen definitely has a problem. We have 35,000 items. Bills average about 4 levels deep.
Full MRP runs in just under 4 hours. Net Regen keeps running and running, and running ...

Under XE full MRP runs in about 1 hour. But ... drumroll please ... net regen typically runs in under 10 minutes!

We are not a high order volume site so your results may vary. The good news is JDE appears to have corrected the Net Regen problem as well as drastically improved full MRP.
