Million Dollar Oracle 8.1.6/JDE Question

Anyone who solves this desires a million bucks. Here's the situation.

Before our first go-live with JDE OneWorld we rolled out 200+ replacement
desktops. We were at Oracle 8.1.5 but since Oracle was desupporting this on
January 1st 2001 AND JDE had certified OneWorld on Oracle 8.1.6 we migrated
all our database servers to Oracle 8.1.6 and installed Oracle 8.1.6 clients
and MDAC 2.1 SP2 on all our clients.

The problem we are experiencing is that when we run Financial columnar
reports such as the R14113 certain sections get dropped from the report.
This is a consistent problem in our environment that JDE-Denver has not been
able to duplicate. They have indicated (as usual) that it must be something
with our technical set-up. Here's why I believe that it is not our set-uo
but a JDE OneWorld 'bug'. Here's what I've tried to fix it.

1. Install SP13 - Still not working
2. Run the cross references on R14113 and transfer all objects relating to
this report from Pristine to CRP. - Still not working
3. Install OneWorld on a NT server to see if the problem was at the OS
level. - Still not working.
4. Install a Pristine package on the workstation. - Still not working.
5. Roll back to SP 11.1 and use jdbco81.dll instead of jdbco80.dll. - Still
not working.

The only place that this report did run correctly was on the Deployment
server. So I tried the following:

1. Copy all directories from the Deployment server pathcode to a
Workstation. - Still not working
2. Build a new Pristine package and test on the Deployment Server (worked).
Deploy package to workstation. - Still not working.

To prove that this was not a database problem with Oracle here's what I did:

1. Turn on all logging and capture the SQL select statements generated by
OneWorld.
2. Run the captured SQL statements against the Oracle Database
3. All the right information was returned, thus there was no problem with
Oracle.

Now I could rule out that this was not an OS problem, not a database problem
and really not a OneWorld application problem since I had copied the entire
pathcode from the Deployment Server (working) to a Workstation
(not-working). This left only one possibility - JDE database middleware.

The reason I suspect the middleware is that I took an Oracle 8.1.6 client,
rolled it back to Oracle 8.1.5 and guess what? - Perfect report. Myself, our
senior level DBA's, the 3 report writer's who were doing reports, 2 CNC
consultant who came in and most of Denver is stumped by this. What we had to
do was roll back 45 client who went live on Budget on October 10th. We have
200 more users going live on full A/R, GA and A/P on January 1st, 2001. We
do not want to have to downgrade our Oracle clients on either our
workstations or our servers. We have tried just about everything with
JDE-Denver. You're my only hope!

Did you try running Locally ? The report has 4 section, Which sections are
getting dropped from the report ? Do you have a log ? If yes would you mind
passing it to me? What about other reports?

JDE Version?
Platform?
O.S. version?

Have you tried testing with a client that has had MDAC 2.5 installed
instead of 2.1?
JDE doesn't seem to care about MDCA all that much if you're Oracle since it
should be using OCI ... however MDAC includes so many Microsoft components
that I believe Oracle Clients can be affected also.

Wow, do I ever know how to get attention. Here's the update to all the
questions:

1. We are on JDE B73.3.2 SP 13.1
2. All Workstations are NT 4.0/MDAC 2.1 SP2 or MDAC 2.5 SP1 (MDAC is needed
for our other databases)
3. The server's are Oracle 8.1.6/NT 4.0

Now here's what else I've tried to do lately.
1. MDAC 2.1 SP1 - still don't work
2. MDAC 2.1 SP2 - still don't work
3. MDAC 2.5 SP1 - still don't work
4. MDAC 2.5 SP2 - still don't work
5. MDAC 2.6 - still don't work

The reports run fine if I roll back the Oracle client on the workstations
and run the report locally. Rolling back the servers is not an option as
Oracle de-supports Oracle 8.1.5 on Jan 1st, 2001. Rolling back the clients
is only a temporary solution for a small number of clients. We have 50 live
clients but on January 1st we add another 200. In the mean time we have
rolled back the 50 clients and set the reports to run locally on the
workstations.

Here's today's update:

I have identified the Oracle 8.1.6 DLL that is creating the problem with the
dropped rows from the Financial columnar reports by copying individual DLL's
from an 8.1.5 client to an Oracle 8.1.6 client. From the 46 DLL's that I
have tested the ORACLIENT8.DLL is the one which resolves the problem. To
test this the OCI.DLL and the OCIW32.DLL must also be copied as they are all
interdependent. I still see this as a JDE middleware issue as the SQL select
statments when run against the Oracle 8.1.6 database DOES return the correct
information.

It may also be usefull to know that we are not the only JDE install having
this problem with Oracle 8.1.6. Also today, II had a JDE consultant (from
JDEdwards) confirm all of my actions and observations today.

we are beginning our migration to 8.1.6 soon. Please keep us all updated.
Meanwhile I assume your Oracle DBAs have checked for relevant Oracle
patches to 8.1.6?

Wow, do I ever know how to get attention. Here's the update to all the
questions:

I'm really surprised at how many people have this problem. For those that
requested it here's our Oracle Client info:

ORACLE 8.1.6 [Non-Functioning]
OCI.DLL 87 KB 2000/03/14 1:25 PM ver
8.1.6.0.0
OCIW32.DLL 21 KB 2000/03/14 9:30 AM ver
8.1.6.0.0
ORACLIENT8.DLL 976 KB 2000/03/14 12:15 PM ver 8.1.6.0.0

ORACLE 8.1.5 [Functioning]
OCI.DLL 87 KB 2000/03/14 1:25 PM ver
8.1.4.0.0
OCIW32.DLL 21 KB 2000/03/14 9:30 AM ver
8.0.5.0.0
ORACLIENT8.DLL 976 KB 2000/03/14 12:15 PM ver 8.1.5.0.0

The easy solution would be to replace the 8.1.6 DLL's with the 8.1.5 DLL's
but Oracle wil not support you. Also JDE is not the only database we run so
this is like 'Robbing Peter to pay Paul'. Also several Oracle patches, at
the suggestion of JDEdwards have been applied.

As a further note, JDE is currently testing on Oracle 8.1.7.
