Migration to XE on diferent servers...

Hi list...
I'm on the way to migrate from B7332 to XE, but we want to do it from the
actuall production servers to new target servers... I placed a call to JDE
and they say that this is no recommended, and I've to "clone" my actuall
instalation on the new servers and then migrate them...
Has anybody tried to do this strange kind of migration???

JDE is right. If your B7332 Deployment is small (not enough free disk
or memory) you will have to clone your Deployment Server to a new
machine (typically with larger disk capacity) and migrate there.

Deployment and Enterprise server sizings tend to be approximately
the same, problem is that during migration your Deployment will
need enough disk to accomodate B7332 and B7333 pathcodes, packages,
ESUs, and optionally Central Objects (unless you stored them on
the Enteprise).

You can also expand your B7332 Deployment (adding more disks and
perhaps some more RAM) and migrate there.

Your Enterprise will also need some free space to keep both B7332 and
B7333 packages, pathcode and system files, plus Central Objects (if
they reside there) and the Business Data expansion after Table Conversion.

I have done this about three times over the past few years. In one case I even moved from one Deployment Server to another one during Upgrade (that was tough).
Once B7321 to B7331, once B7321 to Xe and once B7331 to Xe. The last one was the most trouble free upgrade.
You are comig from B7332, so you should be fine. Just make sure where your Datasources are pointing to when you create your plan. You will have to copy Business Data and Control Tables from your old server to the new one. The problems are mostly with Table Conversion, but you can do it.
