Make sure ESU doesn\'t over write modifications

Is there an easy way to make sure that applying an ESU
will not overwrite custom modifications to objects?

I just wrote and published a whitepaper to do exactly what you are asking for. Go to my website and look for the whitepaper "Applying ESU's in a Development Environment" under Reference/Whitepapers (its the 2nd one in the list )
