Latest Symantec Antivirus update affecting UBE performance

We have recently updated our Symantec Antivirus. The current configuration is as follows.

Program: 10.1.0.394
Scan Engine: 71.1.0.11
Version 01/28/2007 rev.6

Since this change we have noticed UBE performance has slowed down significantly. The change in performance can be seen on our Intel enterprise servers running Windows Server 2000/2003 and local workstations running Windows XP. We see this happening in Xe, ERP8 and E811 SP1 as we have Intel enterprise servers for each release.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon.

Hi,

Check that your AntiVirus is not scanning the spec
extensions (.ddb and .xdb)

Thanks for the idea, but I tried your solution and it had no impact on the UBE performance.

Here's some addition information about our issue:
We have a UBE that we run to test system performance in E1. The UBE performs two operations to test performance. The first operation is to call a C business function. This C business function calls another C business function 1 million times. The second operation is to call a C business function 1 millions time from inside the UBE. We record the time it takes to perform both operations.

Before the update to Symantec operation one ran consistently in 6-7 seconds and operation two ran in 53-54 seconds. Now after the update operation one still runs between 6 and 7 seconds. Operation two has just about tripled in time. It now runs consistently in 2 minutes and 54 seconds.

If we disable the antivirus by using the Symantec icon in the system tray the impact on performance remains the same. If we stop the Symantec Antivirus service the performance of the UBE returns to the pre-update run times.

In a separate test using the Symantec configuration to exclude files, folders and program extensions we excluded the E1 folder. The impact on the UBE performance was still present.
