Hi
I have entered following call to JDE as we're struggling with sales for kit items using different Unit of Measures as Tansaction UOM
Any ideas and comments are welcome

ERP8
NT / Citrix / MS SQL Server

----- snip ----
Following scenario is causing a red error in ship confirm

Primary UOM is one kilo (KG) for all items but sales can be done for Gallons (GA) as transaction and pricing UOM. Kits are used extensively. Normally there is only one component to each kit but there are cases where multiple components are used (blends)

ECS flag is turned ON, there are 3 decimals in the quantity fields of F4211 and 4 decimals in QNTY data dictionary item (F3002 Component Quantity)

The conversion factor is "1 GA = 3.4107 KG"

Enter an order in Gallons for a kit item (Example: 21764.000 GA). (Full gallons, no decimals) Parent line is created with "GA" as UOM, component line is created with converted quantity 74230.475 KG (rounded, as real result would be 74230.4748 KG)
- Ship confirm the order changing the quantity (i.e original quantity was 21764.000 GA, new quantity is 21753.000 GA. (remainder is cancelled) You receive red error "Quantities must balance"
The problem is that, due to (lack of?) rounding and the conversion factor, the quantities do not balance exactly

The system IS set up with the smallest UOM as primary BUT there are decimals in conversion from GA to KG. The items are set up as packaged, NOT bulk items.

In my opinion, the error should not appear if the difference is so small it can not be represented using the available decimal positions in F4211 table

Aarto, you have my deepest sympathies. I worked for years on Energy and
Chemical accounts, and unfortunately problems like these were not uncommon.
You will probably just need to fix the problems you find and move on.
Believe it or not, it was much worse 8 years ago when ECS first came out.

Re: RE: Kits - UOM conversions rounding problems - Quantites must balance

Hi Andy!
Thanks for your comment..

We'll wait and see what JDE makes of the call. In my opinion, they should fix the rounding. Failing a SAR we will most likely modify the Kit balancing business fucntion to perform correct rounding.

Without a fix, it would be impossible to use Kits to sell items using a volume UOM if the primary UOM is a weight Unit of Measure. (unless changing the items to Bulk would make a difference.) We do sell bulk items but they are set up as packed to avoid having to set up the tank information (The stock is kept at external suppliers site and we have no need to reconcile / measure the tank levels)

RE: RE: Kits - UOM conversions rounding problems - Quantites must balance

If you can avoid Bulk Inventory, by all means do so. It does tend to
complicate things, particularly if you don't need the functionality. You
might want to test the scenario with a bulk item, in case JDE tells you that
it works that way. But many clients sell bulk items without using the bulk
inventory module, so it should be fixed.

SAR 6612219: Kits - UOM conversions rounding problems - Quantites must balance

Hi list!

There is now a SAR for this, still waiting to see what JDE makes of it.
Hopefully they will fix the rounding..

Below response from the JDE support specialist
-- snip ---

I was trying to find the official position from development on decimal
quantities on Kit Items, but I could not find anything specific. I Created
SAR # 6612219 reporting the issue. I am not sure on what development
position is going to be on this, but you contact your client manager and
give him this SAR # in case you need to escalate it.

Regards..
