Kits and backorders

Here is the scenario......The item branch record for a kit is set to ALLOW BACKORDERS and CHECK AVAILABILITY.

When commitment run against a sales order for this kit, if any of the components are unavailable, the entire kit should backorder.

This usually works, but I have cases where it does not. In those cases the component line will partially ship and split out to a second, backordered line. The CHECK AVAILABILITY flag should prevent this but it does not do so reliably. I believe (but am not certain) that this problem is only occurring in one company. I have two others that don't seem to have the issue.

Any ideas of where I should be looking for this particular grail would be appreciated.

First, backorder functionality hasn't changed much over the various
releases, but kit functionality has improved dramatically. You don't state what
release you are using.

Configure the following programs for the comprehensive setup of backorders
and availability:
Address book/customer master
Branch plant constants
Item master
Item branch master
Processing options for sales order entry
