The book really does about as much for the user as the J D Edwards .. Help
Desk! .

Re: RE: JD Edwards One World - The Complete Reference

I guess one might miss the point (and I wonder where did one have a JDE Help Desk to deal with).
I don't think there are many users on this site :)
My educated guess is there are power users, administrators/CNC/installers, business analysts, developers and so on ...
and I'm expecting from this book to be ... A Complete Reference - nothing more, and of course, nothing less.

My two cents on the Complete Reference...

From what I've covered with this book so far, I think it is great! The authors are knowledgeable, and they've covered a wide range of technical topics. It is not a replacement for training or experience, but fits the bill on what it claims...a reference guide for OW techies.

I have to say I haven't read it yet but I do have it on the way. (Sorry eric I ordered it just before I noticed that you were selling it, and you had it a lot cheaper.) Anyway at a recent User Group meeting there were a couple of people that had already started reading the book and highly recommended it. From my understanding it is based more on the CNC Tech side of OneWorld. From my understanding one of the writer is a OneWorld Tech consultant for Deloitte and Touche.

But don't quote my on any of this.

Chad, I know the book probably have been discussed on the list before. But I
missed those conversations. Could I ask the name of the book, where can I order
it from, and how much does it cost?

Thanks.

Dave

For what it's worth,

I have had the book for a few weeks now and have found it very good and
worth the money (=A344 here in the UK). It covers many technical areas =
:-

Architectural Theory and Configurations
Data Sources, Path Codes, Environments & OCM
Middleware
Servers & Clients
Coexistence
Tables, Interactive/Batch Applications
Object Librarian, Data Dictionary, Server Map & Control Tables
Packages
Service Packs
Configuration Case Studies
System Administration, Security, Scheduler & Troubleshooting
Data Replication
Printing
Upgrade Tools & Rules
Optimizing OneWorld
Log Files
OneWorld on the AS400
Trouble Shooting NT
UNIX Configuration
Workstations
and much more .....

There are plenty of real life tips and troubleshooting hints in all
sections. To my mind it is more useful on my desk than most of the JDE
manuals from the training courses.

All in all money well spent.

Regards,

Graham.

The book is called "JD Edwards OneWorld - The Complete
Refference Guide". And you can order it from the
jdelist.com for $50.00. (Amazon has it for $70.00).
Eric just posted the the link to the book (Subject:
One World - The Complete Reference link is fixed.) If
that doesn't work go into the Forums at
http://www.jdelist.com/forums.shtml and go to the
"General Anouncements and FAQ" Section.

Hope that helps

I have actually just started reading the One World The Complete Reference
and find it very useful. There are 2-3 editions of the book one for
developers, one for As400 World, and one for One World. The authors of the
One World complete reference are Miller, Jacot, and Stern. It has sections
on the Law of the West for all the cowboys out there that like to mess
around with the code :) Hope this is the book you were referring to.. I find
it well worth the money. It is written well and it makes sense.

Lisa Casey

Not to brag but we have the authors Miller and Jacot working with us on our
OneWorld project. :) Stern was here for a week about a year ago.

They told me to make sure to visit the JDE press web site for 4 more
chapters that were cut from the book (they had a 1200 page limit).

Enjoy!

OneWorld Xe, SP14, on NT with Oracle 8i...

RE: RE: JD Edwards One World - The Complete Reference

I hope that is okay. Actually I have only been with the company for 4 weeks
and I am a technical instructor here. I am just getting to know the
capabilities of the software and the company. I thought the list might help
me pick up troubleshooting areas and tips and tricks I can share in my
classes. I am still too new to cause any damage or share tips, but I will be
sure to share any valuable information that comes my way if you guys don't
mind sharing information with me.

Lisa

Re: RE: RE: JD Edwards One World - The Complete Reference

No Lisa, that is not a problem. The "so JD Edwards is listening" joke was because in the past people on this list would send out "it would be nice if.." posting. These were changes that we would like to see in future releases of OW. The posts were intended for the JD Edwards employees on the list however we usually don't see their real e-mail address (@jdedwards.com).

There may be more people on the list that can add to this.

Good luck at you new job.
