JD Edwards 5??

I just read the press release for 'JD EDWARDS 5'..I have to admit I am a
little lost. I was under the impression that it was more of a marketing
term, but then you read into it more, and it states: Edwards 5 also provides
a path into the future for customers using our solutions -
Is this a completely new platform/version? (IE, this is the 'B9') Anyone
have any information about this?

John

I am lost, too. I thought it was the send-off for their
consulting/implementation team so that we won't use business partners.??

I've heard of JDE 4 but not JDE 5 and I was just as confused by JDE 4.
What was explained to me is that JDE 4 (and I guess now 5) is going to be
the marketing name for the JDE Portal, currently available WITH OW but will
be available WITHOUT OW.

Right now if customers want to have the Web Portal they have to buy OW.
JDE wants to be able to market the portal independant of OneWorld for
customers wanting other Edwards solutions (ie. CRM) but don't want OW.
JDE4 / 5 will have to be shipped with a limited number of OW tables in
order to function but you don't need OW to run it as a front end to your
software solution(s).

JDE Portal(JDE 4 or 5) (Front end to your solutions)

Anyone know differently?

John,

As I understand it, this is JDE's new market strategy.
I will eventually include B9 for pricing and
maintenance. B9 will not be available until 2003.

I found this press release:

J.D. Edwards (Nasdaq: JDEC - News) today announced the general
availability of J.D. Edwards 5, a new, comprehensive family of
innovative, collaborative enterprise software products and services for
customers and business partners. J.D. Edwards 5 features modular,
integrated, Web-enabled applications that assist large- and medium-sized
businesses in improving business performance. J.D. Edwards 5 includes
Enterprise Resource Planning; Supply Chain Management; Customer
Relationship Management; Supplier Relationship Management; Business
Intelligence; Collaboration and Integration; and Tools and Technology.

You can find the full release on the yahoo financial page under JDEC
stock quotes!

Thanks, Gerd

The press release says "..... JD Edwards 5 is based on what we already
offer ..... It's not a complete rewrite...". This is more marketing
whiz-bang, as usual. In order to make their stuff work better they would
have to redo the table design from scratch and have much better integrity
checking. Example: You have accounts payable ? You have vouchers with single
lines ? Look at SFX field in F0411. Is voucher line number. Look at the
corresponding field in F0911 for those records. It is mostly blank. Try
relating vouchers in F0411 to their GL entries. No integrity.

My take on this is that it is as follows :

JD Edwards 5 is purely a Marketing naming convention that has been introduced to umbrella all of JD Edwards' product / solution offerings. In recent times they have made acquisitions (YOUCentric) and introduced new product lines (XPI, APS, etc) which now fall into the new categories / modules under the JD Edwards 5 banner.

The 5 represents the fifth generation of software (at least in terms of naming conventions) for JD Edwards..

In terms of the One World suite....
Under the new banner, Xe Version 2 will become ERP8.0
The new title for B9 will be ERP9.0.

I got the impression that it is a new way of labeling what J.D.Edwards is currently offering as well as plans to offer to its current and future clients. It also enables them to draw more definitive lines between the distinct functional areas such as ERP vs. WEB Enablement vs CRM, etc. It sounds more like a marketing/packaging and pricing news than anything else.

Tony Aldemir

In the announcement that I got it said it consisted of seven product lines. They should call it 7.

Camo,

I agree with your statement. As a mattter of fact I was wondering for a minute there if you were my JDE contact. His explination was almost word for word what your wrote.

Re: RE: JD Edwards 5??

At FOCUS, according to a JDE salesperson, "JDE 5" is merely a marketing term. It is NOT new software. It is an umbrella label to cover all their software, including One World.
