Hey List,

We are in the middle of an implementaion to JDE 8.12, 8.96.1 on Wintel. Our current system in an AS/400 iSeries V5R4 and we program in CL and RPG. We have multiple go live dates for different modules that we are implementing. This creates the need for termporary bridges between the new JDE system and the current legacy environment. My question is, what is the best way to integrate these two systems? Does JDE have built in tools/API's to facilitate this? Can our RPG programs access the 8.12 data base?

Any info that you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here are the short answers.

There is no single best way - it varies on needs/requirements

Yes

Probably - but I wouldn't recommend it in most situations

Here is a longer non-answer.

You've asked a very broad series of open ended questions. There is no
easy answer and it depends a lot on exactly what you are trying to do.
JDE provides a variety of methods for doing interfaces both into and out
of JDE.

The first things you should look at are the JDE z-files. JDE provides
special tables and batch programs for interfacing data into/out of most
of its systems.

Beyond that, you should take a look at the JDE Interoperability Guide.
It provides several other methods for interacting with JDE.

If you've got a lot of this to do, I would recommend you hire yourself a
well-seasoned consultant with a lot of knowledge in interfacing with
JDE. Unless you have all of the time in the world to figure it all out
yourself, a consultant who already knows how to do this kind of thing
would save you a lot of time.
