Implementing Sales and Use Tax in Accounts Payable

We have been asked to investigate implementing Sales and Use Tax processing in Accounts Payable. I wanted to see if anyone else out there has done this and what our options are.

Are you basically required to use Vertex or is there a standard JDE option that could be implemented. Also, is this the type of project that you would typically need a consultant to come in and implement, or should a fairly Senior JDE developer be able to handle this type of thing, although I've never worked with tax before.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. We are on E1 9.0.

Standard JDE could do this, but depending on the number of tax agencies you have to deal with, maintaining the rates can be time consuming The Vertex software is highly suggested so you do not have to maintain the rates manually and the interface to JDE is already integrated. An Application consultant with Vertex experience is also recommended.
