How to attach logic to Sign-On?

Hi List,
Our problem is that we would like to bring up a warning message window/form when the user Sign-On to the Production enwironment warning her/him that she/he is going to use the Production data.
It is important when the system go live because users who took part in the CRP session, sometimes can be confused about in which environment they are.

If I remember well, the Sign-On screen was a OneWorld Form under B7321 but now, starting with B733 it reside in one of the system DLLs in the b7\system\bin32 sub-folder.

Has anybody any idea how can we catch the sign-on event and attach our logic to it or any other idea how can we indicate for the user the usage of the Production environment (as a warning)?

Any tips, suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Zoltán
P.S.: I know, that user can check her/his environment in the help of Oexplorer, further the environment is displayed on the bottom bar of Oexplorer startin with XE, but we want to make a warning independently from the user actions. Thanks.

The image "onemenu.bmp" is the background for applications. It displays
briefly when an application is loading or any time the forms within it are
not maximized. It might be enough to place your message here.

They'd see it any time they change forms. You could use color to signify the
environment.

Re: RE: How to attach logic to Sign-On?

Is there any way to accomplish this in 7.333 (XE)? I just tried modifying the Onemenu.bmp as suggested however it had no effect on any screens that I tried to display.

There's a better way. You can modify the Master Directory menu name in OneWorld Explorer menu to indicate which environment they are in. This can be done in Menu Design.

ie. Master Directory PROD environment

Catherine,
I am not sure I got it right: is it going to work for sites where replicated Menu tables are used, too?

Hi All of You,

At first, lot of thanks all of you here on this List and on the Developers List too for the many useful and valuable hints.

I have just a single little problem remained.
Changing .bmp files is really a GREAT idea but it is really a Path Code dependent solution and not an Environment dependent one.
There isn't a CRP Path Code at almost all of our partners and they use CRP Environment with PROD Path Code (as in the ancient time).
They ommit the CRP Path Code because they generally want to spare HDD space. So, this solution can not work in this type of scenario.

Thanks again,
Zoltán

That's a neat idea. But If you're referring to the "G" menu, none of my clients use this menu. In general they have different root menus for each activity in the company. Changing the titles for these would mean maintaining separate sets of menus for each environment when most just maintain them in one and migrate them to the others.

RE: RE: How to attach logic to Sign-On?

I tried this in Xe as well. It does not appear to work. At least with Xe the
environment is displayed at the bottom of the menu.

Zoltan, there's you're answer upgrade to Xe. Gee, for a moment there I
sounded like a client manager.

I have never tried it. Walbar has implemented it and they have a couple of sites in North America.

Re: RE: How to attach logic to Sign-On?

Hi List,

I somehow missed the boat on the solution to attach logic to sign-on, if there
was one discussed. It will be an useful tool for us to have also. Would it be
possible for someone to forward me how this can be accomplished?

Thanks.

Yep!
Just go to the JDEList's Forum;

Hi David, welcome to the Forum!

Yeah, it's neat - simple and effective. And maintaining multiple sets of menus is the (accomodating) price.

A UBE to replace the first or last word of every description in the menu
would be simple to write.

Just to support (and a bit extend?) Catherine's neat idea:

1.) What about to prefix all menu entries with PROD, CRP, TEST and DEV in the different environments? The only problem is when you exceed the 40 char length with the prefix.
2.) You can maintain your menus automatically:
A.) Modifyiing the menu designer to add always the prefix to the menu text.
B.) Creating a simple BSFN, UBE, APPL or TC UBE which go through F0083 Menu Text table and add the prefix when it is missing.

Is it too foolish?

Re: RE: RE: How to attach logic to Sign-On?

David,

Which hint had you tried in XE?
Unfortunately I can not guess it because the answered post isn't on the end of yours, further your post is closely under my original post instead of any of the answers in the thread on the Forum, further your post is prefixed as RE: RE:

On the other hand, we are interested in B7331, B7332 and XE, but this issue raised now actually in XE.

Thanks,

Re: RE: How to attach logic to Sign-On?

Hi Dave,
Just a bit addition to Adrian's suggestion.
If you have trouble to find issues/posts on the main board of the three mailing lists then try to use the simple but amazing and effective Search functionality of the Forum. You will surely catch them.

On the other hand, I had put my issue onto the Developers Forum too (as I am really a developer), so please check this board also for hints. I know, you will find a lot of useful and witty hint.
Hope, you will also find some for you. Good luck.

You will be very welcome on the Forum!
