Fixed Asset Depreciation

We are setting up 13 accounting periods but we only want to depreciate fixed assets over 12 periods. How does this work?

We had the exact same problem, you need to change your normal number of
periods for the company to 12 and then it will depreciate on 12 periods.

Angie,

In the calculate depreciation processing options, you can specify the depreciation through date, the depreciation period or leave the date fields blank. As you want to depreciate assets over a 12 month period, you should create 12 versions and specify the depreciation through date in the processing option for each depreciation period, then lock these versions down so the dates will not be inadvertently changed. The expense will post to the GL based on the date entered.

Yes it does work for 12 periods. Remember that you
depreciate on a monthly basis. As long as you go
through the year end process after the 12th month,
everything will be ok. The 13th accounting period
should be used for year end accounting journal entries
only and should not be used as a period type of month
for depreciation.

Angie,

When setting up the depreciation rules in Fixed Assets
setup, I beleive beginning with B73.3.2, there is an
option to assign a deprec rule to a separate fiscal
calendar - one other than the company level fiscal
calendar.

I hope this helps -

The period setting in the company master controls depreciation (Field
CALD)on menu G09411. Change this field to 12.
