Dos and Don\'ts, Pros and Cons

JDE List,

I am in the process of installing OneOffs on my DEV ES. I want to install
them here first for testing before I move them to my PROD ES.

Am I going to run into problems due to the fact that I have to upgrade my DS
and my workstation foundation immediately (for my DEV server) when I am not
ready to upgrade the PROD environments yet?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Dos and Don\'ts, Pros and Cons

James,
when you apply a SP to the Deployment Server it will effect your WS only if you install a packge with foundation to it. That would be usually only with full packages.
As long as you don´t do that you should have no problems.
More: one_offs are usually individual files. They will be put in the system directory on your DS. What is installed on WSs is the system.CAB . You would have to recompress the foundation.

Thanks, Gerd

You can setup multiple foundations according to the JDE document. That allows you to have DEV/CRP in one environment and PROD in another.

Hello, James,
As I understand you are going to have two enterprise servers and one
deployment server in your JDE system.
And you are going to install DEV ES at first.
If it is correct you might have the following issue: your main (primary) ES
server will be your DEV ES. It means that OL, DD, SYSB733 (including
security) will be located in your Development server. It means that if your
Dev server goes down, the entire system goes down. And you know that
developers...
Therefore after installing your prod box you might want to migrate all these
tables to your prod box and make OCM, Data source changes. It is not
difficult really. I did it last month :))
