List,

Sorry about all of these posts, but knowledge is key and a dangerous thing.
Is there a way to install the fat client while leaving demo jr on the local
PC? We are running OneWorld Xe, Oracle 8i in an Unix environment. We will
be running WTS in the near future.

Rich-

(hello again)

Yes. I have set up on my laptop, demo jr. I also have a full development
path code installed. It gets tricky because you have two jde.ini files. I
use a batch file to copy the right ini file to "jde.ini" before i kick off
owexplorer. It runs great. I have even been able to copy the spec, source
(and some other directories) from the full package pathcode, to the demo
path and have been able to move some objects accross. The end result was a
demo jr running the code of b7332 13.1 plus my custom objects.

Use SnapShot.exe you should copy it (not a shortcut) to the desktop from your
c:\b7\system\bin32

when you execute it you will be prompted to enter the folder name to rename your
current b7 folder. Once renamed you can install the new client package as you
normally would.

Then again use the SnapShot.exe to save the client install and restore the
DemoJr.

Give it a try!

amwalshjde was right on the money. It's easy to do, but a little time
consuming (each deployment takes its own sweet time).

This is simply an exercise in pathcode maintenance and knowledge of where
databases are and how to get to them.

----

All you need to do is install Demo, move the demo subdirectory to another
spot (root directory is fine), copy your jde.ini, without uninstalling demo
- install DEV, CRP, Prod, whatever, then move the DEMO pathcode (directory)
back into your B7 directory.

Then a little finesse with the jde.ini(s) and you're on the way.

Rename one jde.ini to JDEDemo.ini or something similar and the other to
JDENormal.ini or something similar.

Create two .bat files: call one JDEDemo.bat or something similar and put the
following into it:
@echo off
del c:\WinNT\jde.ini
copy c:\WinNT\JDEDemo.ini c:\WinNT\jde.ini
d:
cd \b7\system\bin32
oexplore.exe
copy c:\WinNT\jde.ini c:\WinNT\JDEDemo.ini

Create the second one JDENormal.bat or something similar and put this in it:
@echo off
del c:\WinNT\jde.ini
copy c:\WinNT\JDENormal.ini c:\WinNT\jde.ini
d:
cd \b7\system\bin32
oexplore.exe
copy c:\WinNT\jde.ini c:\WinNT\JDENormal.ini

Create two shortcuts: JDENormal to point to the JDENormal.bat and JDEDemo to
point to the JDEDemo.bat. Put them on your start menu or desktop and you're
in business.

Write me directly (with subject: "personal") if you want me to call to help
you with this or to run CRP code in demo mode. None of this is difficult,
just time consuming.

Hi Rich,
In the ancient time I have used two B7321 client (both SQL) and one B7331 Demo Jr. on the same machine. Before the next OW install I saved all JDE related file from the root directory and jde.ini from winnt folder, JDE related and ODBC related Registry entries, OneWorld shortcuts from my desktop and finaly renamed my B7 folder.
I made several batch (dos not ow) for switching the clients.
It took a bit of time to prepare it at first time but after it one switch needed only one batch to run which took 1 second not more.
I have done it on NT, and some of my colleauges also used it.
If you want to know more abaout it then response me on my private address and I will look for these old .bat files and folder structure and will send you, maybe with a bit explanation ;-)
