Custom Form Building - Optio?

My company is currently implementing JDE 733 and we're unhappy with many of
the forms JDE offers...such as quotations, pick tickets etc. I'm wondering
if anyone has experience with Optio and what some of the pros and cons are
regarding its use. I know it's not cheap but the forms in JDE are largely
unreadable due to the size of the fonts...not to mention the lack of some
fields we feel are essential.

I'm a complete newbie here so please have some patience. Is there an easier
way to change to appearance of some of these documents?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't ran across anyone that has actually used the JDE forms! They are very
generic. I've worked with a couple of clients that have used Optio
successfully. The form desgin is very flexible and Optio works well with all
JDE batch versions. As far as the forms lacking fields that you feel are
essential, you will most likely have to change this on the JDE side. Optio only
takes the generic form that prints out (the quote or pick ticket) and makes it
look good. It cannot pull in fields that were not on the original form.

Hope this helps.

Optio is a good solution for JDE. Some of our clients say it is too
cumbersome to program though.

You will also want to look at the other key players. They are:

Create!Form
FormScape

We like FormScape the best, but they are pretty comparable and both offer
excellent drag and drop design capabilities.

Ummm, actually Optio CAN pull in data that is not in the original Output document. It can load data from other files and/or perform SQL lookups to retrieve data.

Just wanted to set the record straight :)

Thank you for that update. I was not aware Optio was that advanced.

Cory,
I don't want to start a(nother) passionate web conflict about what OPTIOns we have and what are the FORMescapes we choose, so don't let my only professional opinions alone push you into making decisions; contact as many third parties as possible you can! Most probably, they will make the difference themselves.
As Mechele was putting it, any supplemental field will have to be added in the JDE reports, first and then they are available for your third party form designer.
I myself had the FormScape training recently, and ... still am very happy with it; you get to send your forms ANYwhere you want, on any printer, on any webserver at ANYtime, just by dragging and dropping fields and logic. Some of my colleagues there had been previously exposed to OPTIO and Create!Print; they told me they were happy to discover FormScape was easier to use, implement, and deploy. The training process itself had a major overhaul, the trainer changing the standard 'do as we show you' routine to the 'this is what you can, let's test what you understood' approach.
May the List show to you a lot of similar third party software,
Adrian Chimirel
PS Some of us have a bad habit to expose their nude private system configuration(s) in public! Like me; shame on me?

The information you stated mechele is not completely accurate. Optio is also
capable of doing SQL calls to the Database to retrieve extra data. Or do
look ups from text files. Optio is very flexiable and with Design Studio and
the New ECom series is also able to do B2B(EDI)

Cory:

We're in a situation like yours. We are right now implementing JDE B7332.
I'm checking many solutions like Resolutions and Bussines Solutions, and
really aren't cheaper. When I will have any notice, I'm sending my
experience with the evaluations of those tools. If you now something good
notice about a tool, I´ll really going to appreciate your impressions.

Cheers
