Correct Sequence for Performing Updates

I would appreciate any advice on how to go about the following:

1) Installing OneWorld Service Pack 12.3
2) Upgrading to SQL 7.0

Specifically, does one need to be done before the other? Do I need to apply
any PTF's before, during, after? Any impact on the PDF's? (We use Optio
and if the PDF's are affected, I definitely need to know.)

Also, the instructions say to build an update package after the installation
.... does it have to be an update package or can it be a full package? The
reason I'm asking is because we've applied several SAR's and custom mods
that I have not yet approved and deployed. I've also never done an update
package ... if I'm not ready to deploy the SAR's and mods, can I still do
the update package?

Last, how much time should be budgeted for this? We're planning on doing it
this weekend and need to know how long the system will be unavailable.

Thanks everyone in advance for your replies!

michelle,
i can't answer all of your questions but here are a few. i think you should go to sp12.4. if you put on 12.3 you will need to put on 12.3_sql7. i think all of the sql stuff is in 12.4. you can put on 12.4 before the sql 7.0 upgrade and one world will run. i don't think that one world will run if you upgrade to sql 7.0 before the one world service pack.

also, i think the sql 7.0 requires sp2 with hot fix 851 & mdac 2.5

i am sure a full package will work just fine.

one more note is that 12.4 is stable.

Dave,

Your comment about 12.4 being stable ... are you implying that 12.3 is not
stable???

Re: RE: Correct Sequence for Performing Updates

not really. just an observation i thought i'd make due to reading about some problems with various service packs.
i couldn't really talk about 12.3 in particular. never put it on.

Re: RE: Correct Sequence for Performing Updates

Excuse this drop-in, but is it a requirement to be at least on SP12.4 if an upgrade is performed from OW 73.2.2 to Xe or can I upgrade also if my OW 73.2.2 release has SP 12.2?

Re: RE: Correct Sequence for Performing Updates

roland,
the only thing in the technical requirements is that you should be at the latest service pack that is available for XE.
i am not even sure what the latest service pack is at this time.
