Configurator Functionality Questions

We are finalizing our manufacturing implementation and are looking
ahead to "Phase 2". Can anyone help us verify the following
statements?

1) This configurator does not have access to create new items in the item master. This leads to difficulty tracking sales order items within the system; SO Inquiry, WO Inquiry, Dispatch List, Pick List, etc. all show the Name and Description for the "root" configured model. Searches and Inquiries for what the item actually is require cumbersome "digging" through several system screens.

2) The JDE configurator is essentially just a "parts picker." That
is, component manufactured items (subassemblies) cannot be configured and therefore require discrete bills of material and routings (No "nested configuration for manufactured subassemblies"). Therefore, all manufactured component items called by the configurator must already exist. It cannot create component items so we'd need to create them in advance for all potential options.

3) JDE advanced pricing does not work with the configurator.

4) As with all configurators, there is the danger of configuring a
stocked item. So, since we would stock some products and configure
other similar ones, especially within a series, how will Order Entry
know what part number to enter? For example, for some items they
might enter a discrete number and others a shorter configuration
model number.

We are on OneWorld XE sp 15.1, AS/400, Mfg/Dist/Financials.

Thanks,

Jeff,

Don Herd sponsers a configurator list that may help you further. Send Don an e-mail at [email protected] and he'll send you the information.
