Citrix - why the limit on Number of users

Re: Citrix - why the limit on Number of users - W2K Memory Limits

Windows 2000 Server Advanced supports 8GB of memory.

Microsoft is not going to give you 8GB support if it is not going to be used. The 2GB limit is a terminal services limit (and this can be switched with the /3GB boot.ini setting). It is not a Windows limit for Windows 2000 Advanced server. There are numerous other processes that will use that additional 4GB of memory (2GB in your case) if it is available. It just so happens that most Windows processes do not need that additional memory.

In our case with just the OS, Citrix and JDE being used on the server, it is possible that the following is occuring regarding our 6GB RAM (with PAE enabled on windows 2000 Advanced Server)

You're using Advanced Server. That version can theoretically use up to 8Gb of memory - but there are still limits on how that memory is utilized.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server support the following additional switches:

/PAE - Enables support for 8 GB of memory for Windows 2000 Advanced Server and for 32 GB of memory for Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

/NOLOWMEM - Loads the entire system (drivers, pools, programs, etc.) above 4 GB.
