Hi. Is anyone using Cheque Scribe by Telgate?
It is a 3rd party software cheque writer. We are looking into implementing it. Thanks.

We have been using ChequeScribe at three locations since June, 1999. We
were seeking an inexpensive solution that would allow us to print our
checks on blank stock, and I purchased 3 Troy MICR printers and licenses
for 3 copies of ChequeScribe from Ganson Engineering. Our users are very
pleased with the system.

We were (and still are) running B7322, and one major obstacle was
converting JDE's pdf file to ASCII. Ganson was able to get us a document
from JDE Tech Support, "Line Printer to Text File for OneWorld (UNIX)",
that allowed me to set-up the conversion to an ASCII file on our HP9000. We
use Reflection NFS Connection to allow our three A/P clerks to access the
ASCII files on the UNIX host from their Windows PCs.

How did you find working with line printer filter?

I implementated Formscape (another 3rd party cheque software) on B7321 UNIX. The line printer filter was painful to work with. I had to do a lot of fiddling around with the filter before the ASCII files converted okay. If any R04572 fields moved in ASCII file then Formscape had to be reconfigured to recognize the move. ie. There was a 1-to-1 field location mapping for Formscape. Is that the case with Cheque Scribe?

Our ASCII file layout is unchanged since we went live, so we have not faced the problem that your describe. As part of the implementation, Telgate uses samples of your ASCII files to define the check layouts. Their price was only $300 for doing our initial layout, which includes a corporate logo and signature. I do believe that they are using the exact locations of the data bytes within the ASCII file to define the fields, so there would be updates needed if they were changed.

What version Formscape are you using? I have the latest 2.4 and they have page
splitter, which can be used for those pesky floating lines. Then used line
filter after. It made things easier:)
