Cancelling Backorders

Is there a batch program in J. D. Edwards that will cancel backorders in the
sales order system? It seems arduous to inquire on every sales order
containing a back order and put a "9" in the option field on the order line.
Once a back order gets to be a day or two old in our environment we're not
going to ship it, and we need to get rid of the demand and inventory
commitment.

Any help would be appreciated.

You probably already considered this but I'll throw it out here anyway. There
is a processing option in Ship Confirm that allows you to cancel any remaining
quantity not shipped. We don't use it so I can't tell you how it works, but I
thought you might want to look at it as an option.

Thanks for your suggestion!

We do use that feature for some items. Our problem is 1) for various
reasons we need to hard commit inventory when we print the pick slip. This
is when the backorder gets created, and it won't even be on the screen at
ship confirm; and 2) for our fast moving items, between the time we print
the pick slip and actually load the truck we may have received more of the
item from production. Having the backorders out there is really convenient,
because we can release them very quickly, print the pick slips, and pick the
orders in time to catch the trucks.

The only problem is, if we don't get the product in time, the backorder just
hangs around and we're never going to ship it because the customers reorder
for the next day.

You might need to make a custom program in which you can :

- Update Sdsocn = Sdsobk
- Sdsobk = 0
- SDNXTR = 999

In the data selection of DW version
- Date (any date like DRQJ,PDDJ etc) <= *today - 2

You can put the job in sleeper. Put P42995 repost active sales orders in
sleeper too. Ensure that P42995 will come in the jobq after the custom
program.

Tha custom program will cancel the BOs, P42995 will correct all the
commitment ,availability related fields in F41021.

I hope this may help.
Thanks
Hiranmoy

Another option since you seem to process orders quickly and the customers
reorder the next day would be to turn on the constant in the branch plant
that backorders should be cancelled, or the specific customer record if
appropriate, or the individual part level. This will automatically cancel
the remaining quantities when the committments are run.

RE: Canceling Backorders

Thank you to Tim and Hiranmoy for your suggestions, which are very similar.
I didn't really understand that the P42995 would fix the commitments if we
simply moved the F4211 quantities to the cancelled bucket and updated the
next status to 999.

When things settle down (we went Live the first of the month) I'll try it
out in our test environment.

You may already have a solution, but I thought I should add that there is a
program called Back Order Release in both Batch and Interactive versions.
The Batch is P42118 and the Interactive is P42117. We run the Batch
program nightly after our packslip programs run. We also have created
percent menus, which call the interactive version upon PO Receipt or WO
Completion. The person receiving or completing the order releases the back
orders by hitting enter when the Back order screen comes up. Using these
methods we have eliminated the Back Orders hanging around.
Hope this helps!
