ASN and Bar Coding

We have a trading partner that is requiring us to send ASN's (Advance Shipping Notice) and a bar code has to be part of it. I would like to get feed back on anyone's experience with either of these two pieces.

Thanks

you can print bar codes using DDS. I don't remember the details, but it is
very simply done and works pretty well. We did some experimentation with
printing bar codes on our work orders, but never implemented it. If you
need more info, I can do some research; but like I said, it's a standard
capability within DDS.

Are you looking to do UCC128 labels and ASNs? This requires a unique bar
coded identifier (license plate) for each box or container sent. A
separate ASN is then sent for each box/container delivered to the customer.
I believe this capability is available in World 8.1. We run 7.3 so were
forced to write a separate 'side' system which we then interface back into
JDE. If you need more info, send me a separate email and I will give more
detail.

Suni,

I know you can print out bar codes using DDS (I tried this years ago and you
had to have an special printer for it, AFDS or something like that).
Apparently this bar code has to go out in the EDI record and I don't think
I'm going to have the time to be able to do the development, testing, and
implementation for all that in the required time frame

Doug,

We offer a solution that will allow you to create an advance shipping
notice, along with any other type of document, and include a bar code on it.
We offer our eRP Output Wizard software that allows you to create a
document, interact with any filed in your World or OneWorld output and print
a bar code on the document, which can then either be printed, or delivered
to be faxed, e-mailed or Web-enabled. I would be happy to explain more if
you are interested, you can reach me at 678-584-1640 ext. 42, or this e-mail
address.

Best Regards,

Chuck Carey
