AS/400 IPL

We have a brand new AS/400 830 model as our ES with CO. We also have a
legacy 400 (640 model) running RPG code. With JDE running on the 830, it
seems like we have to IPL the thing 10x more than we IPL our older
640.......is JDE that much more intensive.....or is anyone out there under
an "IPL Schedule" just for preventative maintenance??

I'm not sure why you'd have to IPL that often. On CISC systems, IPL's
were needed to reset the addresses - but they increased the address space
so much when they went to RISC that you should need to IPL very often at
all. We currently do it once a month just as regular maintenance (we are
on an 840).

Why do you feel you need to IPL so often?

I'm curious as to why you're IPLing so much at all. We use a 730 as our ES
(in the process of moving CO to it) and only IPL if we have to apply PTFs,
which is about once every 4-5 months. What is your DASD and memory config?

Once a month sounds good...I guess with our 640 we never had to IPL...and
was not even on a schedule to do so.
Just with some of the problems we were having an IPL seemed to clear things
up.
