Alert Software for JDE and an AS400

Does anyone know of any alert software that we can use with JDE A7.3 World or on the AS400 operating system V4R5M0?

What exactly are you looking for it to do?
(That would influence my answer).

I am trying to get it to shutdown my machine with a power down system command if our UPS power gets low, or call me to indicate the UPS has has been activated.

Kevin, I know about that apar (II12445), but thanks anyway, I am looking for an alert type of software that will call me if our UPS is activated. Any ideas?

ddw_chi,

Perhaps you should be looking at the standard AS/400 system values like
QUPSDLYTIM, QUPSMSGQ, QPWRRSTIPL.

I know of one brand of alert software - ROBOT. I don't know who distributes
in North America. If it is urgent then I can try out find out for you.

Try Robot/UPS and Robot Alert from Help/Systems(www.helpsystems.com). Robot
UPS will follow a set of instructions if the AS/400 detects a power loss.
This can include notifying users and yourself, shutting down subsystems and
ultimately shutting down your AS/400. It works well for us.

A signal is automatically generated by the UPS which will be understood by
OS400, you must simply tell OS400 what to do when receiving the different
signals the UPS sends. 1st thing to do is get cabled up. Then, assuming you
have IBM support, call them, they are very helpful.
You then can also create a job that monitors for such a signal and dials out
to a pager number.
This "alert" software has nothing to do with JDE by the way, just that JDE
happens to reside on the server.

(But you must have the appropriate signal cable between the UPS and the
AS/400 for this to work).

Here is a vendor we like:

There was a program out several years ago called "Robot" that would do what
you are wanting. Monitor disk space, UPS, etc. etc... Unfortunately I do
not remember who made the product. I don't even know if they are still
around.

Redundancy, what a wonderful thing!

There is a white paper (PDF format) from IBM, Backup, Recovery &
Availability that covers a controlled system shut done when the UPS is
activated. If you want I can e-mail it to you directly. We recently
activated it and realized how many hits we were getting and not even knowing
it. And it's free.
