Ability to rework serialized items

We are having problems with serialized items that come back for rework. We would like to have the ability to rework serialized items (products) and want to turn off the serialization duplication prevention control.

I was wondering if any of you have had this experience before and would like to know what did you do in order to solve this issue.

Try this:
Create one more work order for the Parent item. Attach the item which needs to be reworked(rejected) as a part list to the work order. Add necessary rework routing to the work order. Complete the work order. You will get a good work order parent item with a new serial no. Serial number will not be duplicated.

Have you tried the following - not 100% on how serial numbers are assigned.
create a new work order for the serialised item, attach a rework type routing but no parts list.
using inventory issue, do an unplanned issue for the order, selecting the serialised finished goods item for the defective lot.
then do a completion for the order doing a multi-location option, recording against the original serial number.
the key thing about serialised items is that quantity must be one, as inventory has been relieved by the issue the completion to the original number may just work
