2nd Item Code Update

Just wondering if anyone has had to perform an update on the 2nd Item code
at all.

We recently incorporated items from another company, but having got
everything set up in JDE with new codes, it was realized that these did not
match the codes in the company catalog, therefore we have to modify the 2nd
item code for about 100 items to match the catalog.

Using the Data Dictionary it looks as if "potentially" there are about 50
files to be updated.

I'm pretty sure that JDE does not have anything in place to help with this,
in fact there is probably some check to prevent the 2nd item code from being
changed through the system.

Has anyone had to perform this task before and have the software to achieve
this, or at least to get started?

We can write something ourselves in RPG, but if something already exists why
reinvent the wheel!

In fact there is perfectly good standard functionality to support this.
Changing item numbers happens frequently enough that JDE does have a program
that will update all files with the change. Including transaction history.

There's a processing option in the Item Master program to turn on to update
2nd and 3rd item numbers.

The 40/IC (item change) User Defined Code contains a list of all the files
that are automatically updated.

If I read this right, you are talking about the Inventory Part #? If so,
there is a processing option behind Inventory Master (P4101) that says "do
you want to update just F4102 or do you want to update 'all' files that
carry that field" (it's a UDC behind it). We choose '2' to update all
files. What will happen when you change a part #, it submits a job P41026X
(or something) that does the actual update so you don't have to wait for it
on the inquiry screen. We've done lots of them with no problem.

Without being in front of a terminal and being able to verify this, I think
processing option 7 will let you update the files specified in UDC 40/IC.
You can press F1 on this option and view the files that will be updated.
Also while in IM maintenance you can take F19 and view the files to be
updated.

JDE does have a program that will change the 2nd item number in all files based on a UDC table. As stated, just look at the processing options for the Item Master video program.
We have unfortunately had this program bomb on us occasionally due to record locks and such. Our users will change the 2nd item number and then go to something like the Item Cost screen thus causing record locks.

Just keep that in mind.
