Reorg-F98301

Has anyone out there had the opportunity to have to reorganize the F98301 file(DREAM Writer Master Parameter file)?

The file currently contains 157,682 records with 222,100 deleted records. Whenever I attempt to reorganize this file using RGZPFM, I receive an error that the program is unable to obtain a lock on the file. The file is locked by SLEEPER which is the user name for all our SLEEPER jobs. I've tried to reorg this file using QSECOFR signon on the weekends when nothing is processing without success.

My question is, how do I disable SLEEPER so that I can process the reorg? SLEEPER is scheduled to launch at 18:00 every night.

We are currently under A7.3 cume 9.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Yep, I reorg it regularly. You do have to shut Sleeper down first, reorg it, then start Sleeper again. Another thing to do before you reorg it, go to G81 and do a Global Delete on Recursive Versions to clear out some more records you likely don't need anymore.

We have a custom start/stop for JDE's Sleeper job but my guess is just '4' (*IMMED) from a WRKACTJOB screen and let it end. Reorg the file, then to start it, I believe you go to G9643 #3 to fire it up again. Email me directly if you have any questions

Oh yeah... also take the opportunity to reorg F98311, F98302, F98312, F9831 while you are at it.

Hi Ron, your best bet would be to end the SLEEPER subsystem, re-org the
dream writer files (F98301, F98302, F98303, F9831, F98311, and F98312), then
re-start the SLEEPER subsystem. If you do a WRKOBJLCK OBJ(F98301)
OBJTYPE(*FILE) and see the job J95901, that is your SLEEPER job running.

Do a WRKSBS (Enter) and take option 3 to see if the SLEEPER subsystem has
an auto-start entry to start SLEEPER. If so, you can ENDSBS SLEEPER *IMMED
to accomplish your goal of ending the SLEEPER program.

Do a WRKOBJLCK F98301 *file to see how many other jobs are using the file.
These need to be ended.
After this, you can reorg F98301

Then STRSBS SLEEPER.
Perform other tasks as needed.

Before you start the subsystem SLEEPER after you have reorged you might want
to go to the DW P95901 and check it out. Processing option #4 gives Sleeper
a date which to submit all Sleeper jobs. Change the date to the date you
are reorging, and you should be fine. Otherwise, if the date is fairly far
back you might get hundreds of batch jobs in the job queueus which you will
then have to delete. Good luck

Ron,

I did not see any other responses to your question, so I thought I would throw
in my 2 cents.

To cancel SLEEPER, we just end job J95901(*IMMED) then end subsystem SLEEPER.
If this is an improper way to end SLEEPER, we have not seen any adverse results
in the 2+ years we have been using JDE.

Ron,

What I have my clients do is re-org F98301 in the weekly (?) IPL startup
program before Sleeper SBS starts. Adds ever so slightly to the startup but
keeps the file clean. The other files mentioned previously can be done via
Sleeper itself.
