Yathindra :

Although I'm not an AS/400 expert, I've seen that OneWorld UBEs seem to run
more efficiently
on NT/Unix than on AS/400 (this happens since B732x but I don't know why)
I've seen a bunch of AS/400 customers adopting a three server solution :
AS/400 as a
database server, NT as UBE server and their NT Deployment with SQL Central
Objects.
As a matter of fact, server packages are built faster when Central Objects
reside on the
NT/SQL Deployment than Central Objects residing on the AS/400! It's hard to
believe!
Of course, don't forget to read KG tuning papers.
You will find many documents that explain how to enhance OneWorld
performance on any platform.

RE: Re[2]: UBE on server Vs Workstation

Kevin :

I've seen packages with CO on the AS/400 that take 20 to 27 hours, and
packages with
CO on NT/SQL that take 12 to 20 hours.
I've been thinking about this difference... and my theory is that packages
with CO on the
Deployment are faster just because it doesn't have to read them through the
network, they're
local to the Deployment.
I don't have performance numbers for Solaris.

Sebastian,

We are just beginning I migration to OWxe from World A73. We will be
coexisting for sometime. We are looking at putting CO on the AS/400.
Is there a big difference in package builds where the CO ar on the
Deployment server vs. CO residing on the AS/400? Can you quantify the
difference for us?

We have heard of issues with running UBEs on the AS/400 where they
take longer than necessary. Can you help us also quantify the
difference in running UBEs on an AS/400 vs. say a big Sun Solaris
server?

Thanks,
Kevin

Sebastian,

Just out of curiousity, do you have Data Compression
turned on in the Client Access ODBC for Central
Objects? IBM says that the data contained in Central
Objects is a prime candidate for compression. I have
a feeling this would make a huge difference in
builds.

Hi!

No, I've never tried that. It can be an interesting experiment...
