I think most posters on this board choose to agree that each solution =
has it
purpose and that no solution is perfect for all people. First I would =
like
to say that we currently run One World on an HP9000 config but another
division runs World on an AS400. To assume that since World runs =
awesome on
that stable AS400 doesn't mean anything when it comes to running One =
World
which (based on my talks with the World team) seems to be a pretty =
different
beast. If you have a company that doesn't run 24/7 and doesn't mind =
being
down once in a while then you don't need to worry about a clustered =
failover
solution so yeah your single AS400 is fine. If your company doesn't run =
a
ton of UBE's (mind you One World UBE's don't have the efficiency of =
World)
then you might not need multiple application servers (we don't yet and =
we
run about 2000-3000 UBE's a day on our HP9000.). If your users don't =
mind
when your single terminal server goes down and getting booted off then =
you
might not need multiple terminal servers (again One World can only =
handle
about 30-50 users per TS whereas it could probably handle 50-70 of =
those
World terminal sessions on the same box). If your company doesn't want =
to
spend the money on the Citrix licenses then you could stick with MS TS =
it
just isn't as efficient. Finally if your company doesn't need a sys =
admin
for the software they are running then they must not really do to much =
of
anything outside of the vanilla install. Or was your goal to say =
everyone
should just continue to run World? At focus I found out that there are =
a lot
of smaller companies (less than 100 users) running One World. They can =
run
just fine on a large NT box with a few (3) terminal servers. Throw in =
an NT
admin and a separate JDE admin and they are still running a lot cheaper =
than
an AS400. As they grow they can expand their hardware with little =
effort. If
you already have an AS400 why get rid of it? I guess my point to this =
whole
rant is there is no silver bullet solution and that I wouldn't want to =
ever
assume that a piece of hardware/OS won't fail at some point, even the
