RE: Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

Hi Eric,
Take a look & see if you have the "Check Digit Used" box checked in Next
Numbers.
Having this checked will make you skip numbers.

Is Check Digit turned on in the Next Number sequence?

Re: Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

Eric,

Any chance these numbers are being used in an alternate (eg, Test) environment?
This happens to us because the Next Number file (F0002) resides in the COMMON
library.

RE: Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

Is your address book next numbering set up with a check digit? If the check
digit is set to a Y, then you won't use every number. The check digit tries
to help prevent a user from getting a good address book number if he
accidentally keys in a number that is close (transposed.)

Re: Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

This sounds vaguely familiar. Try looking at the next number setup in all of
your tables; check digit should be turned off. If it is set to 'Y", the system
will select random numbers. Also, I think that there is a KG document on this
as well. Hope this helps.

We are encountering 'gaps' in the Next Numbering of Address book records
being created.

Example:
Customer address book records 383673, 383675, 383677, 383678, and 383680
exist.

But address book records 383674, 383676, 383679 do not exist.

This occurs often. Any suggestions?

Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

Any suggestions from you on the following? We are encountering 'gaps' in
the Next Numbering of Address book records
being created. Check digit is turned off.
Example:
Customer address book records 383673, 383675, 383677, 383678, and 383680
exist. But address book records 383674, 383676, 383679 do not exist.

We are reviewing the JD Edwards knowledge garden document OFN-00-0071, which
describes one scenario that can cause this.

Setup
Next Numbers by Company is not being used. Check digit is turned off.

What is happening?
JDE has written various programs to default to the Next Numbers in Address
Book if it cannot find a Next Number set up for a system code.

Process for Resolution
Monitor the Next Numbers for System 01 on a regular basis, preferably every
2-4 hours. Keep a log of the number in Next Numbers. When you see that the
next number skips substantially, write down the new number and the time
frame when the number skipped.

Find out what programs were executed during this time frame (statements,
checks, batch programs, etc.). You may have to communicate with other areas
within the company, like your Accounting Department, AP/AR Department, FA
Department etc. You need to know which programs were run and if the next
numbers which were skipped in address book were assigned to documents in
another area (like check number, short account ids, asset numbers etc.).

Once you pinpoint what programs were executed during the timeframe and what
number the Next Number represents (this could be almost anything - Next
Numbers is used for many JDE programs), establish a Next Number for the
system code (or line within the system code) that is missing.

Solution
Add the Next Number that is missing for that system code.

RE: Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

I am getting these messages directly as well. On two different e-mail
addresses,an old one and my new address. Was there a change or is this just
a problem? Anyone know? I am sending this to [email protected], not from
"the from address".
Let's see where it goes!

Re: Address book has Next Number \'gaps\'

Eric:

Keep in mind that adresss book numbers get alocated at the START of an add.
Is it possible that someone is starting an add then exiting?
