How to remove escaped characters in media object text?

I have a text attachment in the Media Object Viewer. It has an extra blank space. So in the XML for my RTF (BI Publisher), it has an escaped characters as " ". So right now in the PDF, the " " character shows up instead of the blank space.

How do I remove that escaped character and have it shown the real character in my XML? In my case, it will be a blank space instead of " "
