Hi List,

I have received and read your messages since one year.

This is my first posted message to you.

As you know, JDE allows maximum 15 digits for numeric data items in data dictionary. We need more than 15 digits for some numeric items.
Here is Turkey and we have a big inflation economy. Is JDE allow to change maximum size of numeric items in data dictionary greater than 15 digits ?

This could be quite the undertaking. You may be better off creating an extraneous file which would house
the additional data elements needed to support larger numeric fields.

I very much doubt that JDE has any plans to expand the data dictionary amount fields. That would invlove extensive modification of the database and would be a major upgrade. The first question to ask is what do other JDE users in Turkey do? You might try contacting JDE's main office in Turkey. From JDE's web site this is:

The usual solution with currencies of a very low unit value is to account in multiples, for example 1,000's. I see that there are about 1.6 million Turkish lira to the British pound. At that rate I can't believe that you need to account down to the single lira. If you take 1,000 lira as your smallest unit does that still leave you with problems? What about 10,000?

I would also recommend against changing the field lengths. It would surely create havoc in your system. There is a package which I used once called Pathfinder. Not sure of the software manufacturer though. You would first use it to build a comprehensive cross reference of the objects on your machine. This would take a while to run, but once that was complete, you could recompile a physical and it would identify all logicals, joins and programs which would need to be recompiled and recompile them, without data loss. I never worked with it long enough to know if it was fool proof, though. Dave's idea would be much safer...

Don't forget that JDE also has a built in "where used" cross reference. Inquire on an object in the SVR and use F15. The cross reference can be rebuilt from menu G9642.
