E9.2 Actual Start Date (alias DJ2) on WO Routing not getting populated

One of our users has noticed that the Actual Start Date on our WO Routing table (F3112) does not get populated with any values.
Does anyone know what, if anything, is supposed to populate this field? The help text (F1) for this field in DataBrowser (shown below) doesn't offer a lot of help.

It does not get populated.
Have considered a customization pushing the first/earliest time charged date in there and/or the earliest material issue for material associated to a routing step ...
