W Environments

Hi List,
Would like to get some opinions on using the 'W' environments. Has
anyone else been told by JDE that if you don't use the 'W' environments
you will be jeopardizing support from JDE?? All opinions welcome.

Lisa :

I've never used neither 'W' nor 'J' environments, and my customers run their
applications on both
WTS and Java Servers quite happily.

Devi :

WPRD733, WDEV733, WCRP733, WPRT733 : 4 environments supposedly designed to
run on Windows Terminal Server.
They share pathcode and data with PRD733, DEV733, CRP733, PRT733 but with
different MBF mappings on the OCM.

Yours, Sebastian

However, Lisa, if you have JITI turned on it will
use more resources and probably perform more slowly
if not logged into the W or J enviros.

Lisa
jeopardizing support from JDE?? I remember when we were trying to go live on our Citrix server with W environments. We had 2 or 3 JDE reps out here to install them and they couldn't get them to work. So I can't see how they can say they won't support running PRD on Citrix.

P.S., I see you have a new title and company, is a congratulations in order?

Hi Lisa, how'd that other messaging problem work out?

Anyways, I use the 'W' environments for all TSE environments. We have users
who use Fat clients when on the LAN and use Citrix/TSE when remote. It would
be nice if JDE had a feature to force people to use the TSE or 'W'
environments when remote and the 'normal' envionments when on the LAN. We
also use 'Z' environments for table conversions environments.

Colin,
The other issue you helped me out with worked out fine. All your
help is appreciated. Any feedback on using 'W' environments -vs- not
using 'W' environments is appreciated. Currently we use them with WTS,
but we are going through an upgrade and someone is recommending not
using the 'W' environments with WTS. I am cautious of this since
JDEdwards has explained to me that with WTS if we log a call the first
thing they are going to ask and make sure of is that we have the 'W'
environments. I don't want to chance losing what little support I can
get from JDE by bypassing the 'W' environments. I do realize that there
are work-arounds for not using the 'W' environments, but if it
jeapordizes support from JDEdwards I don't want to go there!!
