Hi.

We are starting our first upgrade. Currently we are on XE Update 6 service pack 18. Running on MS SQL 7.0 and Windows NT 4.0 sp6a

We want to upgrade to E1 8.11 and to change Database to UDB and Enterprise SO to Red Hat Linux.

We are not sure of the best plan to do this.

What of this options you recomend?

A. Upgrade
A.1 Upgrading the Deployment to 8.11
A.2 Install the DB and the Enterprise on Linux
A.3. Copy PD7333 to DV7333 and to PY7333 (Objects and Data)
A.4 Upgrade DV7333 to DV811 and to new server / database
A.5 Upgrade PY7333 ro PY811 and to new server / database
A.6 Test DV811 and PY811 (aplicattion and development)
A.7 Refresh Data from PD7333 to PY811
A.8 Copy PY811 to PD811 (Objects and Data)
A.9 Test PD811
A.10 Refresh Data from PD7333 to PD811 and Go Live

or this one

B. Parallel Install
B.1 Make a new fresh intall of E1 8.11 (new servers)
B.2 In the XE copy PD7333 to PY7333 and DV7333 (Objects and Data)
B.3 Upgrade from XE DV7333 to DV811 (is this possible)?
B.4 Test DV811
B.5 Copy DV811 to PY811 and to PD811
B.6 Test PY811 and PD811 (test development also)
B.7 Refresh data from PD7333 to PD811 and go Live

Is possible to upgrade enviroments between two instances of Oneworld?

Has someone combined a upgrade with a plataform or database change?

If we go for the A solution we can still develop custom objects in PY7333?

When we upgrade an Enviroment ie PY7333 to PY811 are both enviroments in use or is only the new enviroment active?

it's posible to have both versions with all enviroments working?

And at last, is recomended or necesary to upgrade first to sp23 before upgrading to 8.11?

Many Thanks to All.

> Is possible to upgrade enviroments between two instances of Oneworld?

However you have two instance of EnterpriseOne. The easiest way is to mantain the same Deployment Server. Install 8.11 on XE Deployment (backing registry, security file and jde.ini of XE)

> Has someone combined a upgrade with a plataform or database change?

No I never combined, but I think that if you want migrate enterpriseOne and Base platform (db and OS) and if your current servers have good performance I suggest you to:
1) Upgrade EntepriseOne on current Server. So you install 8.11 on XE deployment and on XE enterprise upgrading environment DV7333 and PY7333
2) Retrofitting for example on DV811 enviornment on SQLServer
3) Now if you want add a new Enterprise Server and new database in EO811 for example for PY811 enviornment, reconfiguring PY811 enviornment
4) Upgrade production environmnet on current server and platform (intel SQLServer)
5) Now you can decide to go live with SQLServer if your PY811 testing on Linux don't satisfy you, else you can copy data from SQLServer to UDB/Linux and reconfigure PD811 enviornment to golive with new platform

> If we go for the A solution we can still develop custom objects in PY7333?

Yes, you can continue to develop and reupgrading only that object

> When we upgrade an Enviroment ie PY7333 to PY811 are both enviroments in use or is only the new enviroment active?

After upgrade if you want to reuse PY7333 you have to change ITS Business Data DB (db must be in XE format), because standard db has been upgraded

> it's posible to have both versions with all enviroments working?

Yes

> And at last, is recomended or necesary to upgrade first to sp23 before upgrading to 8.11?

In my opinion is not necessary.

Good Luck

Hi Gigi

Many thanks for your complete answers, here are a few more questions.

Well, i cannot upgrade on the same db, because we have SQL 7.0 and 8.11 requires SQL 2000. I'm going to follow your guide but trying to upgrade the enviroment over DB2.

If this fail, i'll try to change an enviroment to DB2 under XE and then doing the upgrade.

>2) Retrofitting for example on DV811 enviornment on SQLServer

What is retrofitting? (i'm spanish), is to uograde custom objects?

>3) Now if you want add a new Enterprise Server and new database in EO811 for example for PY811 enviornment, reconfiguring PY811 enviornment

perhaps to create a new path code and enviroment on XE over DB2 and copy PY7333 to this enviroment and then Upgrade this enviroment?

>> When we upgrade an Enviroment ie PY7333 to PY811 are both enviroments in use or is only the new enviroment active?

>After upgrade if you want to reuse PY7333 you have to change ITS Business Data DB (db must be in XE format), because standard db has been upgraded

when an enviroment is upgraded the data is changed in this database, or is a new database PY811 the one that has data changed?

>> it's posible to have both versions with all enviroments working?

>Yes

any document to do this?

Many Thanks

1) What is retrofitting? (i'm spanish), is to uograde custom objects?

Correct!!! redo personilization, if necessary

2) when an enviroment is upgraded the data is changed in this database, or is a new database PY811 the one that has data changed?

Database is the same so PY7333 will not be available after upgrade, but if you copy PY7333 db before upgrade to another database,
after upgrade you can change configuration of PY7333 to access this new db

3) any document to do this?
on Upgrade guide when explain Enteprise server installation, it explains you how configure two EnterpiseOne services on the same server(services running togheter). For Deployment save registry, jde.ini and security file (so you are able to downgrade to old release), for client use snapshot.

Carlos,

We went the "B" or Parallel Install route from XE to 8.9.
Your steps for that look accurate to me.

We also changed from an HP Unix platform to a Wintel solution and upgraded the Oracle version from 8.1.6 to 9.2.4 on the new server.

Do you currently use Websphere / Web clients?
I thought 8.11 only supported web.

Regards,

Hi Gigi

I'm reading the upgrade guide for DB2 and Unix, do you refer to multi foundation?

Greetings

Hi Larry.

How did you upgrade an XE enviroment to the new instance on 8.9 with the 8.9 planner?

have you any doc to guide this operation?

Many Thanks.

>I'm reading the upgrade guide for DB2 and Unix, do you refer to multi foundation?

Multofoundation is a concept refferred to Service Pack/tools Release of the same release, but concept is similar

>How did you upgrade an XE enviroment to the new instance on 8.9 with the 8.9 planner?

Documentation is the upgrade guide to 8.11.

Gigi

My co-worker Don attended a JDE/Peoplesoft class where he asked the instructor how to migrate platforms while upgrading.

Sorry there is no document that we know of that directly covers this.
