RE: MRP nightly run

Have you tried reorganizing the files f3411, f3412, f3413. They are HUGE,
and often full of deleted records. This may help speed up operations. The
reorg will take a LONG time, try to schedule over a weekend or when the
machine is not busy. Then perhaps put it in to run weekly. We also CLEAR the
entire files monthly. DANGEROUS, but easier than changing Dream writer
options, then forgetting to change them back again.

RE: MRP nightly run

Our DW options are set to clear F3411, F3412 and F3413 every night. Why is
it considered dangerous to clear the files?

RE: MRP nightly run

We also run MRP nightly, over roughly 18000 items. It takes approx. 3
hours. This is our main run over a majority of our manufactured items,
with a 1 level bill. This version is the 1st MRP we run each night and we
clear the file (opt. 24). We also do not have the processing option set to
print. (opt. 22) We also run smaller batches after this (where we DO NOT
clear the file) and we do have the print set.
There are many variables to check, but the number of items, the size of
your bills and the two processing options mentioned above are the key
suspects when it runs a long time.

We had the same problem.

Make sure you know the memory pool size of the JobQ that it is running in.

I can run a full blown MRP in batch from my user id during peak usage times and it only takes about 21 mins. My batch jobs go to a jobq with no memory restrictions.

Our Nightly Run goes to a different Jobq and takes 68 mins.

Before our New AS/400 we were on an S20-2178 with 4 processors. MRP took anywhere from 3-4 hours.

Now we are on an i series with only 2 processors. (but more Ram)
