That is kind of like selling a sports car to buy a bicycle with a basket on
the front isn't it?

We are going to move from the AS400 as the Entriprise Server to a NT/SQL
enterprise server. Has anyone done this ?? If so Please contact me.

Re: Moving from AS400 to NT/SQL

Why doing this ? What's kind of AS/400 you have.
Change it to NT is not realy smart ...

RE: Moving from AS400 to NT/SQL

It seems all the 400 people are asking why, I think cuz we all know the
versatility of 400 w/ JDE.

Just from experience I was on a 400. Now on NT (job change not company
decision) and I am very frustrated because I can't tell what the heck is
going on in the background... I can't go to a command line and get a job log
(drawing one on my screen didn't help either). I had to have consultants
translate how to tell me what jobs were running on the system but it STILL
isn't enough. It isn't as detailed... Task Manager and PID #'s do nothing
for me... I can't do a wrkobj and see what the file name is or what lib it's
in. For every one way of doing things on NT there is 10 on the 400. I
don't hate what I'm doing on NT servers but the 400 provides MUCH more
information when you trouble shooting an issue. I feel like I went from a
riding mower to a push... I can get the same results but it takes me SO much
longer in my job now. And Security is a joke compaired to the 400. And I
have Oracle to babysit... never paid any attention to a db before... could
have cared.

RE: Moving from AS400 to NT/SQL

How many concurrent OW connections does your NT/Oracle environment support?
We're currently running an AS400 enterprise server setup. Some rumors about
changing that strategy.

RE: Moving from AS400 to NT/SQL

David,

We are coexistent, so could not totally pull off the AS/400. However, we
did pull out for an enterprise server. We have been quite happy with the
performance as a dual processor 720 mhz with 2 mb of memory outperforms our
b720 single processor with 4 gb of memory. I am sure you know of the price
performance gains to be had outside of the AS/400 world. We would probably
move today if we could. You will find it to be faster and more economical.
The reliability will not be quite as high, but neither will the price.
