Re: Focus 2001

Hi Doug,

I've seen many of your postings on JDEList over the past year, and appreciate
all of your input and feedback.

I attended FOCUS also and thought it was terrific. I am also a member of the
Conference Planning Committee and, this being your first FOCUS, I'd welcome your
feedback about your experience so we can continue to make it better for
everyone. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share.

Thanks for attending and I look forward to seeing you on the 'list' this year!

RE: Focus 2001

Sounds exciting. I think that the priorities for companies is to get on the
web, there are some really exciting applications that I am hearing about.
Later on, they can migrate to One World if they want. Meantime all I'm
hearing about One World, I'm not allowed to use those words on this list...

RE: Focus 2001

Ed has apologized for customer service problems and quality issues every
year. That's not to say that there hasn't been any improvement.

Re: Focus 2001

List,
I do agree with Doug's comments about Focus. It was a great one, since this
time was my 11th year in a row, I did enjoy all the speakers, also the new
IBM/JDE iSeries with OneWorld ready is great idea.

A new migration path was introduced to OneWorld is Co-Resident (not
coexistence) using XPI, however is not completed yet and it's target for A8
customers who can not coexist with OneWorld.

A final observation, there was a lot of World customers this year, every
session of Migration to OneWorld, Coexistence, Technical considerations all
were packed with AS/400 World clients which means almost every World client
is looking to migrate to OneWorld.

A final note: Ed announced there is no final end date of support of World,
however Feb, 2005 is the date that JDE uses as a review date.

Yeah, Ed said that but did you see Dave Seibert cringe when he did?

Doug,
Yes I did, it was very noticable. However I did verify the support date
with JDE Advance Business Technology group which they said in their opnion
the support will last as long as there are customer in it.

RE: Focus 2001

Support is one thing.

Enhancements is another.

My boss wants to know why we should be paying the High cost of Maintenance
and support when he has 3 decent RPG programmers on staff. ( And enough
Power users to muck up the system enough so that the programmers are kept
busy. hehe )

Was anything at all Said about Future Enhancements to World?
(Heck I would just be thrilled to get World Writer Fixed)

We are on 8.1 cume 2 and are not realistically looking to going to one world
anytime soon.

RE: Focus 2001

Scott;
I can't answer the question of paying for maint. (To many issues to
consider). But if you
are concerned about enhancements perhaps you should work with the
appropriate
SIG group. A decision I made this year was to become more active
within the Dist./Logistic
SIG. Actually when I found out that they haven't had any leadership
for the past several years
I volunteered to serve as the SIG VP. Since the SIG groups speak
directly to JD Edwards
you might want to consider that route to voice your concerns over
enhancements.

PS A large percentage of the Dist./Logistics SIG are still on World
(Myself included).

RE: Focus 2001

Scott,
There was over 150 enhancements made last year in World. Your concern was
detailed in World SIG, JDE admits that they will look at the users issues
and if a too many of them with the issue will do it.
I understand your concerns with the power users you have, however it's a
standard to pay software maintenence!

Do you where these 150 enhancements are documented? I would like to take a
look at these.

RE: Focus 2001

John,

I went to that site and found it quite impressive. If I am looking at it
right there was 94 Enhancements and 47 Regulatory changes done.

Unfortunately, this does not say which versions of World were effected. 7.3
or 8.1 or Both??

Were these enhancements or bug fixes? I'd like to see this list of "150
enhancements". I'm sorry Emad, but that number sounds like something that
was pulled out of thin air...

RE: Focus 2001

I think the number is pretty accurate. At the Manufacturing SIG workshop
we had our representative who is on the WAC committee in attendance and he
also indicated that there were 146 enhancements that we all needed to look
at. I have not reviewed them yet myself, but will do so within the next
day or so.

Re: RE: Focus 2001

Now that I've slept off my yearly FOCUS hangover, I can speak with a "clearer mind". This was my 6th conference and heard a lot of the "same old thing". I agree that Ed "always apologizes" for things but it also does give you slight bit of hope because you don't see to many other CEO's doing that these days! The comment about "World in 2010" was a hoot and yes, Dave S. was visibly surprised. I wonder how many times Ed's upper mgmt must say to each other; "Sometimes I wish he would keep his mouth shut!". It was an interesting comment and one I stuck in the back of my head for the future. I spent most of my time trying to get people who cared to understand our frustration with the migration process "as it applies to us". We have some situations in our environment setup (multiple) that is very easy to manage in World and was not far off the standard but that almost seems impossible to do in OW, at least not without a lot more maintenance, headaches, and likely disk space. We will keep struggling and hoping for improvements and will continue on a daily grind trying to understand OW and how we can migrate. Wish us luck. See ya'll next year. And yes, I wore my pin faithfully the entire conference and only saw a couple of others but I know you were all out there!

RE: Focus 2001

John,
I cannot open this link, either. I am really interested in seeing this list
because I want to see what JD Edwards is considering a product enhancement.
There were quite a few fixes that we were looking to get completed that were
considered enhancements by the JDE development staff.

I am not trying to be negative at all, but I am very skeptical that 150
enhancements were actually completed.

RE: Focus 2001

Well somebody isn't doing something right (probably me) I got to the site,
but only find 23 enhancements and the site says it was last reviewed
12/28/2000.

Is this what is being referred to?
