Office 2000 and ER Design - Cut and paste problem

Hey all.

I am running W2K pro + Office 2000 with JDE B7331 SP11.3

I used to be able to cut and paste from Word97 to ER Design. This was very nice with large SAR's. But now with the above config I can't do it. The ER Design screen states that the clipboard is empty. I have tried this from a pure text file (using Notepad) and same result.

Anyone else run across this issue? What did you do?

Thanks for your help.

Harry,
I am surprised that you have been able to Copy/Paste ERs from Word97 into ER Designer.
Now, I tried it on our B7331 SP6 and Word97 NT4 but it didn't worked for me.
I had entered a bunch of Paper Fixes on B7321 and B7331, further the same SARs on more systems (remember eg. 2YK) but I had been able Copy/Paste from text to OW only for C++ BSFNs but never for ER Designer. How could you do that?

I extensively use(d) Copy/Paste for ERs in many situation and by my experiences OW can paste ERs only when it was Copied also from ER Designer, further ERs copied from B7321 is not pasteable in B7331.

Were you really able to copy/paste ERs from a text editor into ER Designer?

That would be cool!! I am trying to find a way of doing this for a couple of
years! Your tips will be really appreciated!

Adrian,
Be careful using copy/paste ER. It makes easier to reproduce ER but not a full resolution. My tips:

1.) First create all Controls, ER and Report variable before paste.
2.) If you can, take care for in which order create the ER variables, the best is when in the same order as they originally created. You can guess it from the printed ER list or from the "aged" order variable list windows like Assignment in ER Design.
3.) You have to revise all ER lines with double click and correct it when it is necessary.
4.) Revise all parameters in BSFB call.
5.) Re-map or re-enter all Table I/O statement (I re-enter genarally to keep myself on the safe side).

This wasn't a full list about Copy/Paste ER method.
Please, let me know if you will have trouble with it (e.g. when the IF line get disabled while ENDIF line of it remains enabled after paste).

Good luck,
Zoltán

Hi Zoltan.

You are right. My mistake. Sorry about that. I have only been using JDE for about a year and not making alot of SAR changes. I was confused with ER and C++. (Too much multitasking in current job. sort of like JDE with threaded business functions!!!)

Sorry about that to all!

Regards,

Harry
