New Company Setup

Hi everyone,

We have a company in Indonesia which is accessing Oneworld sited in Singapore by WTS. The AA's currency of that company is in Indonesian Rupiah which is a terrible mistake from the beginning as it is a hyperinflation currency. I even got a complain from Indonesia that that there is not enought data field to input the amounts in Indonesia Rupiah!

So we decide to set-up a new company in Oneworld for that company and this time the AA's currency is US$. The 31st Dec 2000's account balances in the old Rupiah company would then be migrated to the new US$ company from 1st Jan 2001.

The Indonesia JDE users would have access rights to both companies in Oneworld.

My question is whether should I set-up a totally new company in Oneworld with new customer, vendors, employees in the address book.

Or can I reuse the existing customers, vendors and employers in the address book and just change the business unit associated with each address no. to the business unit belonging to the new US$ company.

JDE consultant adviced me to set-up new Company completely with new address nos.

Any comments and advices would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Anthony:

Actually I have a similar scenario. What we did was to configure a completly
new company, of curse thera are good and bad news... Some of the good news
are that we don't have data confusion across companies because we captured
clients, account numbers, etc.. again for the new company, we could also set
up security so neither company could modify or even see others company
data... The bad news are for example that we had to create UBE's versions
for the new company modifying some layouts and of curse the data selections
and the process options to match the new comapnies requirements.

Hope this coments help you.

Anthony,

There are a couple of items to think about before making your decision.
1) Are you using Business Unit security to limit access to address records?
2) Do you track AR or AP balances in F0301 or F0401 for reporting?
3) Do you have different payment requirements between companies?
If not, you most likely do not need to setup different address records for the new company.

Hi, Anthony,

From the description you have provided, I first thought you should better
stay with your old customers and such. And basically, the answer is - you
don't have to start using new address codes. But normally on-site people
know better. I think one of the reasons is that it is not enough to change
the business unit. You'd probably wish to change your credit limits, AB
currency and maybe even supplier and customer currency to U$D, re-create
balances and statistics - a lengthy process, and you don't win a lot, just
the old number. I do think it is cheaper (either in terms of time of money)
to create new addresses and store a link to old address. It'll also save you
the trouble of converting open vouchers and invoices to U$D and to your new
company (they are open for the old company).
