Disk space for upgrade to XE

Hi all,
I am planning the upgrade from B7321 to XE and am very tight on disk space on the deployment server. While at the MUG conference people were saying I would need approximately double the current One World disk requirement during the upgrade due to having multiple copies of each path code. I assume this is in case you need to recover something.
In order to do that i would need to buy a new deployment server.
First question is can i just store those copies of path codes elsewhere on my network ? This would save me from replacing my deployment server.
Second question is can anyone give me an idea of any additional disk requirements that will be needed just because the upgrade took place.
Thanks in advance,
dave

Dave,

Your a 'member' now. cool. Guess you answered my question about whether you are going to Xe.

The Xe upgrade uses completely new path names and will setup a whole new directory structure. CRP is PY, PRD is PD and so on. Central Objects will double as well. To install on your existing DS will require double space.

I don't have certain answers to your two questions, but a couple of thoughts that might help:
-You could decide to just install one path at a time. This could take a little longer but it would allow you to manage the space better. You will still have to go all or nothing on your clients.
-You will at least need your prior Central Objects. Are your CO's on another machine? That'll buy you space.
-There's a document covering some cleanup you could do on the DS folders in the Xe Upgrade Guide.

To help you determine the space you'll need I can offer you what space we have consumed with Xe and let you do the math. Our B7333 path contains 21.5GB. That is three paths plus pristine. Each of these paths have two full packages: one from JDE and one we generated. Unfortunately our CO's are in Oracle, so my numbers aren't going to do anything for you.

Hope this helps some.
Doug

hi doug,
good to hear from you. been quite a while. in any case, thanks for your input although 21 gig is kind of a scary thought for me. my entire B732 directory (with prist/dev/prod) totals 8.8 gig. and yes, my central objects reside on my enterprise server so that will help but don't think i'm going to make that one (5 gig per path).
can anyone else share their gig requirements for the deployment server ? is 21 gig for four pathcodes (including central objects) normal ? how big are central objects in XE ?
thanks in advance,
dave

uh...that's 21GB WITHOUT the Central Objects. Each path has nearly 5GB, but 4GB is in packages. Each full package is 2GB.
