E9.2 WORLD Developer to E1 Developer Path

I have been a WORLD Developer for over 25 years now and finally have decided to move on to E1. Keeping my WORLD background in mind can anyone please suggest what would be the fastest/accelerated path to come up to speed on E1 Development/Deployment. Basically anything to do with an E1 Developer/Techincal Role. Any recommendations for any accelerated training programs out there would be appreciated. Thanks

I am in the same boat. I 'decided' years ago to move to E1. But, #1, having my current company move to E1 it if my hands, and #2, I haven't found a company running E1 willing to hire a World developer and train then.

Meant to type "out of my hands". Stupid autocorrect!

Check out jdetips.com. I know a couple people who took some of their training classes and thought they were very well done.

You can find the book "J.D. Edwards OneWorld: The Complete Reference " on Amazon. It was written 20 years ago, but all of the fundamentals are the same. It won't cover newer things like User Defined Objects and Orchestrator Studio, but you can find a lot of that on LearnJDE.com. I haven't looked at what LearnJDE.com might offer for regular development.

When Oracle was first coming out with their cloud offerings, they were touting that you could provision a demo JDE environment in the cloud for free for 30 days. I don't know if they still do that, but you might want to check it out. It would give you a chance to go in and try some development. I learned a lot just by looking at how the vanilla JDE programs were written.

Good Luck,
Ellen

Guys,

the ugly truth is that you would be moving from one shrinking job market to another.
E1 is in the long sunset period of no expensive enhancements on Oracle's part while they milk maintenance revenue as long as possible.
There's a few new sales happening but face it ... JDE architecture is 30+ years old. Its a long way from being the latest and greatest.
If you have 10+ years left in you before retirement I suggest you look farther than E1.

Now let the arguments begin ..

Curious on your thoughts (or anyone) about the impact Orchestrator could have in extending the life of E1. Now that a BSFN can be called within an Orchestration, I'm wondering if the future of development is in Orchestrator more so than RDA or FDA. Of course, an understanding of the BSFNs is a prerequisite if you want to use in Orchestrator. BTW, I'm not a developer.

As always, it depends ... If the BSFN handles all the work to complete the transaction, then yes. But JDE transactions are a combination of APP/UBE logic and BSFNs. That's where AIS sits. You can "automate" the actions made in a app to produce the transaction result.
