PeoplSoft/JDE Product Naming Confusion

Hello All,

I attended a RUG(?) yesterday afternoon. There was a PeopleSoft presentation outlining their products and future directions. It mentioned a lot of different product names and versions. This resulted in my being a more than little confused.

Can anyone help resolve my confusion on this. What are the relationships between the following names and versions and any others that are related? What is the upgrade path, apart from seemingly endless SPs of unknown quality?:

OneWorld Xe (B7333, SP??_? ...)
JD Edwards 5
ERP 8, 8.9, 9
EnterpriseOne (SCM/FMS, FMS CRM)

Let's see...

OneWorld Xe is..... One World Xe B7333

JD Edwards 5 is.... A marketing gimick that JDE came up with before the merger with PS. The ERP (OneWorld) system is one of the 5 things JDE was trying to package together.

ERP8 = Enterprise One 8.8
ERP8.9 = Enterprise One 8.9
ERP9 = Next JDE release from Peoplesoft, probably Enterprise One 9.0

It's all really just marketing... Hope this helps.

I too have been confused but after reading several different KG docs I think it is like this.

B7333, B7334 is the same as XE and has been renamed "Peoplesoft Enterprise One XE".

JDEdwards 5 does not mean anything anymore but is renamed just Peoplesoft Enterprise One. This pertains to the suite of all Functional Modules they sell.

ERP 8.0 seems to be the same thing as XE but has a few extra modules? ERP 8.0 also seems to be going away and does not mean anything. I never quite knew the difference between XE (Update 4,5,6,7,8) and ERP 8.0.

ERP 9.0 or B9 was the original name to the "Next" major release. The name was changed to ERP 8.9 because if you say "B9" it does not role off the tongue as intended.

So that leaves ERP 8.9 as the next thing to do. They seemed to also start the Service Pack over at 1 again. So ERP 8.9 with SP2 is the current release to convert to.

SCM/FMS, FMS CRM are module "functional" names that pertain to the actual software you purchase and not the technical level.

I believe the next version of EnterpriseOne is actually going to be 8.1. I
know, backwards, but that is what I have heard from a Peoplesoft consultant,
and on the knowledge garden you will find references to a new (as in 'fixed
in 8.1') version 8.1 in some of the items.
I just hope that the Oracle fiasco gets settled one way or the other soon -
it is placing many companies in limo, mine included. Management will not
support an upgrade from Xe until they know and are comfortable with what/how
the company is going to evolve, and with that, support for
EnterpriseOne/OneWorld. I am afraid that if it festers for too long, some
companies may drop Peoplesoft/JDE and just jump to SAP. I know - expensive,
but guaranteed they will be around long after us.

Only one change...

At the time that JDE had come out with ERP 8.0, their next major release was slated to be ERP 9.0. Then the merger took place. PeopleSoft then labeled the next major JDE release (which was to be the JDE ERP 9.0) PeopleSoft 8.9.

During the February Quest SIG Forum, we drove to Denver and met with our PeopleSoft account executive. Part of the discussion was on ERP 10 & 11. I Assume they will become EO 8.10 and 8.11. 10 was to be generally available third quarter of this year. It was originally to be an update, but, has now been reclassified to an upgrade. 11 was to follow 6-9 months later.
